For example, you can abbreviate the show command to sh and the configure terminal command to config t. Enter a question mark (?) to see the available ROM-monitor commands. For more information about the ROM-monitor commands, refer to the Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Command Reference publication. Step 3 Check and verify the entire list of configuration parameters, which should display on your console. To send data to another subnet when the router is not configured with a routing protocol, configure a default gateway. When the router boots, it automatically retrieves the IP address from the BOOTP server. After you specify the level and set a password, give the password only to users who need to have access at this level. You can configure up to 16 hierarchical levels of commands for each mode. By configuring multiple passwords, you can allow different sets of users to have access to specified commands. If you want more restricted access to the configure command, you can assign it level 3 security and distribute that password to more restricted users. For complete syntax and usage information for the ROM monitor commands, refer to the Cisco 7600 Note Series Router Cisco IOS Command Reference publication. In ROM-monitor mode, enter the o command to verify the value of the configuration register boot field. Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 6-19. The configuration tasks in this chapter apply to LAN ports on LAN switching modules and to the LAN ports on the supervisor engine. Switching Frames Between Segments Each LAN port on a Cisco 7600 series router can connect to a single workstation or server, or to a hub through which workstations or servers connect to the network. Use the trunk or nonegotiate keywords to force LAN ports in different domains to trunk. For more information on VTP domains, see Chapter 8, “Configuring VTP.” Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 78-14064-04. You must configure the neighboring port manually as a trunk port to establish a trunk link. Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 78-14064-04. The BPDUs on the native VLAN of the trunk are sent untagged to the reserved IEEE 802.1d spanning tree multicast MAC address (01-80-C2-00-00-00). The BPDUs on all other VLANs on the trunk are sent tagged to the reserved Cisco Shared Spanning Tree (SSTP) multicast MAC address (01-00-0c-cc-cc-cd). Note For complete syntax and usage information for the commands used in this chapter, refer to the Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Command Reference publication. By default, the Cisco 7600 series router is in VTP server mode and is in the no-management domain state until the router receives an advertisement for a domain over a trunk link or you configure a management domain. On devices that do not support VTP pruning, you must manually configure the VLANs allowed on trunks. Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 78-14064-04.

Network services are disrupted until the redundant supervisor engine takes over and the router recovers. If they are not identical, one will boot first and become active and hold the other supervisor engine and MSFC in a reset condition. Note If you are performing a first-time upgrade to RPR from EHSA, you must reload both supervisor engines. On the Cisco 7600 series router, the port numbers always begin with 1. When facing the rear of the router, ports are numbered from the left to the right. Processor board ID SAD04430J9K R7000 CPU at 300Mhz, Implementation 39, Rev 2.1, 256KB L2, 1024KB L3 Cache Last reset from power-on Bridging software. You can enter the show running-configuration command to display the configured VLAN interfaces. Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 78-14064-04. When a module has been removed or installed, the Cisco 7600 series router stops processing traffic for the module and scans the system for a configuration change. Each interface type is verified against the system configuration, and then the system runs diagnostics on the new module. Note The clear counters command clears counters displayed with the EXEC show interfaces command, not counters retrieved using SNMP. Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 6-18 78-14064-04. An interface that has been shut down is shown as administratively down in the show interfaces command display.

Note For complete syntax and usage information for the commands used in this chapter, refer to the Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Command Reference publication for this release. The sound quality of a Cisco IP Phone call can deteriorate if the voice traffic is transmitted unevenly. The default Layer 2 CoS value is 0. Untrusted mode is the default. The supervisor engine initially allocates the configured default of 7 W (167 mA at 42V) to the Cisco IP Phone. When the correct amount of power is determined from the CDPv2 messaging with the Cisco IP Phone, the supervisor engine reduces or increases the allocated power. The Policy Feature Card 2 (PFC2) and any Distributed Feature Cards (DFCs) provide hardware support for policy-based routing (PBR) for route-map sequences that use the match ip address and set ip next-hop keywords. All LAN ports in each EtherChannel must be the same speed and must all be configured as either Layer 2 or Layer 3 LAN ports. LACP supports the automatic creation of EtherChannels by exchanging LACP packets between LAN ports. LACP packets are exchanged only between ports in passive and active modes. Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 13-3 78-14064-04. Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 13-4 78-14064-04. This chapter describes how to configure IEEE 802.1Q tunneling and Layer 2 protocol tunneling on the Cisco 7600 series routers. The PDU is then flooded to the native VLAN of the Layer 2 tunnel port.

You enable pruning globally on the Cisco 7600 series router (see the “Enabling VTP Pruning” section on page 8-7). Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 78-14064-04. On Cisco 7600 series routers with trunk connections to network devices in VTP transparent mode, configure the VLANs that are used by the transparent-mode network devices or that need to be carried across trunks as pruning ineligible. Do not enable VTP version 2 unless every network device in the VTP domain supports version 2. Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 78-14064-04. You cannot clear the domain name. Note Step 3 Exits VLAN configuration mode. For complete syntax and usage information for the commands used in this chapter, refer to the Note Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Command Reference publication. Some of these VLANs are propagated to other switches in the network when you use the VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP). Note When a Cisco 7600 series router is configured as a VTP server, you can configure Token Ring VLANs from the router. Token Ring TrBRF VLANs. The TrBRF can function as a source-route bridge (SRB) or a source-route transparent (SRT) bridge running either the IBM or IEEE STP. If an SRB is used, you can define duplicate MAC addresses on different logical rings. When the ISL connection is reestablished, all but one port in the backup TrCRF is disabled. Figure 9-4 illustrates the backup TrCRF. Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 78-14064-04. For information on configuring VTP, see Chapter 8, “Configuring VTP.”. Traffic that fails the RPF check is called non-RPF traffic.

The Cisco 7600 series router processes non-RPF traffic in hardware on the PFC by filtering (dropping) or rate limiting the non-RPF traffic. CEF-based rate limiting of RPF failures is the default on systems with PFC2 and for DFCs. NetFlow-based rate limiting of RPF failures is the only rate limiting mode supported with PFC1. In a network of Cisco network devices connected through 802.1Q trunks, the network devices maintain one instance of STP for each VLAN allowed on the trunks. However, non-Cisco 802.1Q network devices maintain only one instance of STP for all VLANs allowed on the trunks. In Cisco IOS release 12.1(13)E and later releases, RSTP is also available as a standalone protocol in Rapid-Per-VLAN-Spanning Tree (Rapid-PVST) mode.In Cisco IOS release 12.1(13)E and later releases, RSTP is also available as a standalone protocol in Rapid-Per-VLAN-Spanning Tree (Rapid-PVST) mode.

Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 15-24 78-14064-04. Configuring the Root Bridge Cisco 7600 series routers maintain a separate instance of STP for each active VLAN. A bridge ID, consisting of the bridge priority and the bridge MAC address, is associated with each instance. For each VLAN, the network device with the lowest bridge ID becomes the root bridge for that VLAN. Cisco IOS uses the port priority value when the LAN port is configured as an access port and uses VLAN port priority values when the LAN port is configured as a trunk port. On a network device other than a Cisco 7600 series router, when ports are configured to deny traffic, CBAC permits traffic to flow bidirectionally through the port if it is configured with the ip inspect command. The same behavior. To permit the traffic. Unlike regular Cisco IOS standard or extended ACLs that are configured on router interfaces only and are applied on routed packets only, VACLs apply to all packets and can be applied to any VLAN or WAN interface. VACLS are processed in hardware. VACLs applied to WAN interfaces do not support the drop, forward, or redirect actions.A flow is defined as packets with the same IP addresses and Layer 4 (UDP or TCP) port numbers. When a log message is generated, the timer and packet count is reset. Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 23-17. Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 23-20 78-14064-04. The Cisco 7600 series routers use forwarding tables to direct traffic to specific ports based on the VLAN number and the destination MAC address of the frame. When there is no entry corresponding to the frame’s destination MAC address in the incoming VLAN, the frame is sent to all forwarding ports within. The information covered in this chapter is unique to the Cisco 7600 series routers, and it supplements the network security information and procedures in the “Configuring Network Security”. Security ACLs The Cisco 7600 series router can deny packets in hardware using security ACLs and can drop DoS packets before they reach the CPU inband datapath. Because security ACLs are applied in hardware using the TCAM, long security ACLs can be used without impacting the throughput of other traffic. Most of these packets are dropped, but a small number are sent to the router (rate limited). Cisco 7600 Series Router Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide—12.1E 24-5 78-14064-04.

    cisco 7200 manual

If the remote end of the WAN connection is connected and properly configured, the AutoInstall process begins. Perform the following step to complete this task. If you fail to do this, your configuration will be lost the next time you reload the router. These parameters are used for controlling system-wide settings. Complete the following steps to enter the global parameters: The following information appears after about 30 seconds. When you see this information, you have successfully booted your router: On subsequent uses of the setup facility, the script begins with a System Configuration Dialog as shown in the following example. Method Status ProtocolFor Internet Protocol (IP)-only installations, you can accept the default values for most of the questions. A typical configuration using IP, IPX, and AppleTalk follows and continues through Step 8: It provides a means to access and set configuration and run-time parameters of routers and communication servers. SNMP defines a set of functions that can be used to monitor and control network elements. If you are using IP routing, you must also select an interior routing protocol. You can specify only one of two interior routing protocols to operate on your system using the setup facility: Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP) or Routing Information Protocol (RIP). Only IP, IPX, and AppleTalk are the selected protocols for this example. This is done by using the media-type interface command: Changing the speed and duplex of an NPE-G1 or NPE-G2 Gigabit Ethernet interface is done using the speed and duplex interface commands. This is useful for connecting to other Gigabit Ethernet equipment that does not support 802.1z autonegotiation. Both full-duplex and half-duplex operation are supported in this mode. In this example, the first interface is configured for the GBIC media type, the second interface is configured for the RJ-45 media type, and the third interface is not used.

The chapter contains the following sections: Complex configuration procedures are beyond the scope of this publication and can be found in the modular configuration and modular command reference publications in the Cisco IOS software configuration documentation set that corresponds to the software release installed on your Cisco hardware. The green OK LED on the power supply turns on. The LEDs on most of the port adapters go on and off in irregular sequence. If the Port Adapter Jacket Card is installed, observe its LEDs. Some may go on, go out, and go on again for a short time.During this initialization, the LEDs on each port adapter behave differently (most flash on and off). On the console terminal, after the system displays the system banner and hardware configuration, you will see the following System Configuration Dialog prompt: You do not have to configure the interfaces immediately; however, you cannot enable the interfaces or connect them to any networks until you have configured them. To verify correct operation of each interface, complete the first-time startup procedures and configuration, and then refer to the configuration note for each port adapter for LED descriptions and to check the status of the interfaces. You can configure features such as Access Control Lists (ACLs), routing protocols, and other options using SDMs advanced mode. SDM does not support the following features: WAN configuration, Gigabit Ethernet (GE) interfaces, AA client, EZ VPN server, QoS, SSHv2, DHCP server configuration options, and usability enhancements. If your router did not ship with SDM preinstalled, you can download a free copy from the Software Center at Cisco.com at Because SDM uses a GUI, it requires that you access it from a PC using a supported web browser. Go to the Security Device Manager (SDM), Version 1.1 User Note for the 7xxx Routers for more information. The show version command displays the release of Cisco IOS software that is available on the router.

You might need to reload the system image by power cycling the router. This allows you to log in without using a password and to display the startup configuration passwords. However, after powering off the router, wait at least 30 seconds before powering it on again. Note the value for use later and proceed to Step 6. If you cannot log in to the router at all, go to the next step. Proceed to Step 6. If Break is disabled, power cycle the router (turn the router off or unplug the power cord, and then restore power). Then proceed to Step 5. The user EXEC prompt is displayed as follows: Then enter the show startup-config command to display the passwords in the configuration file as follows: The passwords displayed look something like this: The enable and console login passwords may be encrypted or clear text. Proceed to the next step to replace an enable secret, console login, or enable password. If there is no enable secret password, note the enable and console login passwords, if they are not encrypted, and proceed to Step 17. Failure to follow the steps as shown might cause you to erase your router configuration. This action allows you to modify or replace passwords in the configuration. You can remove individual passwords by using the no form of the above commands. For example, entering the no enable secret command removes the enable secret password. If you omit this step, all interfaces are administratively shut down and unavailable when the router is restarted. If you skipped. This guide contains important The Cisco 7200 VXR routers include the Descriptions and examples of software commands are included when they are necessary for replacing, installing, configuring, or maintaining the router hardware. A Cisco 7200 VXR router equipped with an NSE-1 or NPE-400 can support up to six high-speed port adapters and can also support higher-speed port adapter interfaces including Gigabit Ethernet and OC-12 ATM.

Other interface commands might be needed, depending on the nature of the connected network. The show controller command is a very powerful debugging aid, especially for Cisco engineers should you need help in debugging a problem. If you have any problems with your Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, you will need to provide this information to Cisco for analysis. To configure the interface parameters, you need your interface network addresses and subnet mask information. Consult with your network administrator for this information. Follow these steps to configure an ATM interface. Enter yes to configure for extended AppleTalk networks, and then enter the cable range number. Enter the zone name and any other additional zones that are associated with your local zone: Follow these steps to configure Fast Ethernet interfaces. Enter yes to configure for extended AppleTalk networks, and then enter the cable range number. Enter the zone name and any other additional zones that are associated with your local zone: Follow these steps to configure synchronous serial interfaces: Enter yes to configure for extended AppleTalk networks, and then enter the cable range number. Enter the zone name and any other additional zones that are associated with your local zone: You can use the setup command if you want to modify the parameters after the initial configuration. To perform more complex configurations, use the configure command. Complete the following steps to configure the router manually: Press Ctrl-Z (hold down the Control key while you press Z ) or enter end to exit configuration mode and return to the EXEC command interpreter. To see a list of the configuration commands available to you, enter. If you fail to do this, your configuration will be lost the next time you reload the router. These publications contain additional information on using the configure command. The enable secret password is encrypted, however, and must be replaced with a new enable secret password.

The configuration note is also available on the Documentation CD-ROM and on CCO. A second power supply, although not required, allows load sharing and increased system availability. A modular power cable connects the AC-input power supply to the site AC power source. Figure 1-4 shows a Cisco 7206VXR with an installed power supply filler plate. Table 1-1, earlier in this chapter, lists the AC-input and DC-input power supply system power specifications, including input voltage and operating frequency ranges. To avoid potential problems when you install spare Flash Disks or Note. The kit is shipped with each Cisco 7200 VXR router and is also available as a single FRU. For a description of the MAC-layer address, see the “MAC-Layer Address”. Using this address scheme, you can remove port adapters and insert them into other routers without causing the MAC addresses to move around the network or be assigned to multiple devices. When you remove or insert a port or service adapter in a Cisco 7200 VXR router, the midplane pins send signals to notify the system, which then performs as follows: Rapidly scans the midplane for configuration changes.

This section outlines the requirements imposed by ClusterXL on surrounding networking equipment. To let the CCP packets pass between Cluster Members, configure the settings below on the surrounding switches. You can disable IGMP registration on Cluster Members. To let the traffic reach the cluster, configure the settings below on the surrounding routers. To let the traffic reach the cluster, the router must support sending unicast IP packets with multicast MAC addresses. If you have a router that is not able to learn this type of mapping dynamically, you need to configure static MAC entries to map unicast Cluster Virtual IP addresses to multicast MAC addresses. This may cause a multicast storm through the network. Disable such configuration on your router. In a High Availability environment, the single member is the Active member. In a Load Sharing Unicast environment, the single member is the Pivot. The G-ARP packets associate the Virtual IP address of the cluster with the physical MAC address of the new Active member (or Pivot member). When this happens: Switches continue to send traffic to the physical MAC address of the member that failed. This results in traffic outage until the switches have fully updated ARP cache tables. In Virtual MAC mode, the VMAC that is advertised by the cluster members (through Gratuitous ARP Requests) keeps the real MAC address of each member and adds a Virtual MAC address on top of it. See sk50840. Go to the ClusterXL and VRRP page. In the Select the cluster mode and configuration section, select High Availability and select ClusterXL. In the Advanced Settings section, select Use Virtual MAC. Click OK. Install a Policy on this cluster object. To configure VMAC Mode on the command line: Log in to Expert mode.Run: cphaprob -a if For more details, or instructions for other networking devices, always refer to the device vendor documentation. For security purposes the EXEC has two levels of access to commands, user EXEC mode and privileged EXEC mode. Because many privileged-level EXEC commands are used to set operating parameters, you should password-protect these commands to prevent unauthorized use. The passwords should be different for maximum security. If you enter the same password for both during the setup script, the system will accept it, but you will receive a warning message indicating that you should enter a different password. In both cases, a number cannot be the first character. Leading spaces are ignored, trailing spaces are recognized, and alphanumeric characters are recognized as uppercase or lowercase. The show version command displays the release of Cisco IOS software that is available on the router. If the remote end of the WAN connection is connected and properly configured, the AutoInstall process begins. Perform the following step to complete this task.

    cisco 7301 manual

However, it is wise to shut down the interface before removing a port adapter that has active traffic moving through it. Removing a port adapter while traffic is flowing through the ports can cause system disruption. Once the port adapter is inserted, the ports can be brought back up. OIR is a method that is seamless to end users on the network, maintains all routing information, and preserves sessions. The connector has a set of tiered pins in three lengths that send specific signals to the system as they make contact with the port adapter or service adapter. The system assesses the signals it receives and the order in which it receives them to determine if a port adapter or service adapter is being removed or inserted into the system. From these signals, the system determines whether to reinitialize a new interface or shut down a removed interface. The system recognizes the signals and the sequence in which it receives them. Any newly inserted interface is put in the administratively shutdown state, as if it was present (but not configured) at boot time. If a similar port adapter type is reinserted into a slot, its ports are configured and brought online up to the port count of the original port adapter. (A service adapter has no configurable ports.) The environmental monitoring functions constantly monitor the internal chassis air temperature and DC supply voltages and currents. If conditions reach shutdown thresholds, the system shuts down to avoid equipment damage from excessive heat. The reporting functions periodically log the values of measured parameters so that you can retrieve them for analysis later, and the reporting functions display warnings on the console if any of the monitored parameters exceed defined thresholds. If the air temperature exceeds a defined threshold, the system controller displays warning messages on the console terminal, and if the temperature exceeds the shutdown threshold, the system controller shuts down the system.

The chapter contains the following sections: Complex configuration procedures are beyond the scope of this publication and can be found in the modular configuration and modular command reference publications in the Cisco IOS software configuration documentation set that corresponds to the software release installed on your Cisco hardware. It describes the numbering and addressing scheme of the port adapter for the router, the environmental monitoring and reporting functions, and online insertion and removal (OIR). These descriptions help you become familiar with the capabilities of the Cisco 7301 router. These addresses are not used by other devices in the network; they are specific and unique to each port. The Cisco 7301 router uses a specific method to assign and control the MAC addresses of its port adapters. To display information about all port adapter slots, use the show interfaces command. If you abbreviate the command ( sh int ) and do not specify port adapter type and slot number (or arguments), the system interprets the command as show interfaces and displays the status of all port adapters and ports. If the new port adapter matches the port adapter you removed, the system immediately brings it online. In order to enable OIR, an address allocator with unique MAC addresses is stored in an EEPROM on the system board. Each address is reserved for a specific port and slot in the router regardless of whether a port adapter resides in that slot. The MAC address for the port adapter slot in the Cisco 7301 is slot 0. You can remove a port adapter and insert it into another router without causing the MAC addresses to move around the network or be assigned to multiple devices. Also, each time a port adapter was replaced, other devices on the network would have to update their data structures with the new address. If the other devices did not update quickly enough, the same MAC address could appear in more than one device at the same time.

During this initialization, the LEDs on the port adapter probably will flash on and off. Systems, Inc.On the console terminal, after the system displays the system banner and hardware configuration, you will see the following System Configuration Dialog prompt: You do not have to configure the interfaces immediately; however, you cannot enable the interfaces or connect them to any networks until you have configured them. To verify correct operation of each interface, complete the first-time startup procedures and configuration, and then refer to the configuration note for the port adapter for LED descriptions and to check the status of the interfaces. You can configure features such as Access Control Lists (ACLs), routing protocols, and other options using the advanced mode SDM. SDM does not support the following features: WAN configuration, Gigabit Ethernet (GE) interfaces, AA client, EZ VPN server, QoS, SSHv2, DHCP server configuration options, and usability enhancements. If your router did not ship with SDM preinstalled, you can download a free copy from the Software Center at Cisco.com at. Because SDM uses a GUI, it requires that you access it from a PC using a supported web browser. Go to the Cisco Router and Security Device Manager (SDM) User Guide for the Cisco 7200 VXR and Cisco 7301 Routers documentation for more information. The show version command displays the release of Cisco IOS software that is available on the router. If the remote end of the WAN connection is connected and properly configured, the AutoInstall process begins. Perform the following step to complete this task. If you fail to do this, your configuration will be lost the next time you reload the router. These parameters are used for controlling system-wide settings. Complete the following steps to enter the global parameters: The following information appears after about 30 seconds.

The system stores the present parameter measurements for both temperature and DC voltage in NVRAM so you can retrieve them later as a report of the last shutdown parameters. Immediate operator action is required. All DC power remains disabled until you toggle the power switch. Before any shutdown, the system logs the status of monitored parameters in NVRAM so you can retrieve it later to help determine the cause of the problem. You can also retrieve and display environmental status reports with the show environment, show environment all, show environment last, and show environment table commands. Parameters are measured and reporting functions are updated every 60 seconds. A brief description of each of these commands follows. Overtemperature conditions can occur if the system is drawing in the exhaust air of other equipment. Ensure adequate clearance around the sides of the chassis so that cooling air can flow through the chassis interior unimpeded and exhaust air exits the chassis and is not drawn into the inlet vent of another device. The report displays parameters that are out of the normal values. No parameters are displayed if the system status is normal. The example that follows shows the display for a system in which all monitored parameters are within normal range: Following is a sample overvoltage warning: Air temperature is measured and displayed, and the DC voltage supplied by the power supply is also displayed. These thresholds are related to those listed in Table 3-1 and Table 3-2. The display also lists the shutdown threshold for the system. The show environment all command also displays a report showing which power supply slots are occupied and which are empty. The system continues to operate if a fan fails. When a fan fails, the system displays the following message: The LEDs on the port adapter go on and off in irregular sequence. They may go on, go out, and go on again for a short time. On the router, the green STATUS LED comes on and stays on.

To configure the interface parameters, you need your interface network addresses and subnet mask information. Consult with your network administrator for this information. Following are three examples of three different interfaces that might be used. Follow these steps to configure an ATM interface: Enter yes to configure for extended AppleTalk networks, and then enter the cable range number. Enter the zone name and any other additional zones that are associated with your local zone: Follow these steps to configure Fast Ethernet interfaces: Enter yes to configure for extended AppleTalk networks, and then enter the cable range number. All Cisco IOS images for the Cisco 7301 platform use CPU-core 0. CPU-core 1 allows acceleration of specific feature sets via separately purchased special software. As of Cisco IOS Release 12.3(14)YM, multi-processor forwarding (MPF) accelerates the following broadband features: L2TP Access Concentrator (LAC), L2TP Network Server (LNS), and PPP Terminated Aggregation (PTA). Port adapters are not supported in the multi-processor forwarding (MPF) path on processor 1. To have all packets forwarded by processor 0, use the no ip mpf command.

This is done by using the media-type interface command: Changing the speed and duplex of a Cisco 7301 router Gigabit Ethernet interface is done using the speed and duplex interface commands. This is useful for connecting to other Gigabit Ethernet equipment that does not support IEEE 802.1z autonegotiation. Any speed or duplex commands are ignored while using this media-type mode, even if present in the configuration (for an example, see output from show running-config ). For example, it shows the detected link status, speed, and duplex, and also determines the current status of autonegotiation and the link partners' abilities (if it is an autonegotiation-capable interface). The show controller command is a very powerful debugging aid, especially for Cisco engineers should you need help in debugging a problem. If you have any problems with your Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, you will need to provide this information to Cisco for analysis.

If bit 13 is set, the system boots the boot helper image found in boot flash memory without any retries. To form the boot filename, the server starts with Cisco and links the octal equivalent of the boot field number, a dash, and the image name. Table C-3 lists the default boot filenames or actions. It disables the bootstrap messages at startup. Setting bit 8 (the factory default) causes the processor to ignore the console Break key. Clearing bit 8 causes the processor to interpret Break as a command to force the system into the bootstrap monitor, halting normal operation. A Break can be sent in the first sixty seconds while the system reboots, regardless of the configuration settings. Setting bit 10 causes the processor to use all zeros; clearing bit 10 (the factory default) causes the processor to use all ones. B it 10 interacts with bit 14, which controls the network and subnet portions of the IP broadcast address. Table C-4 shows the combined effect of bit 10 and bit 14. Table C-5 shows the bit settings for the four available baud rates. (The factory set default baud rate is 9600.) If boot commands are in the configuration file, the router software processes each boot command in sequence until the process is successful or the end of the list is reached. If the end of the list is reached without a file being successfully booted, the router will retry the netboot commands up to six times if bit 13 of the configuration register is set, otherwise it will load the operating system software available in ROMmon. The default setting for bit 13 is 0. If bit 13 is set, the system boots the boot helper image found in boot flash memory without any retries. See the following sample output: See the following sample output: See the following sample output: See the following sample output. If the interference stops, it was probably caused by the Cisco equipment or one of its peripheral devices.

To enable processor 1, use the ip mpf command. They are listed below along with sample output. Use these commands to verify the MPF installation. This command is supported only for physical interfaces. There is no support for virtual access interface. If you fail to do this, your configuration will be lost the next time you reload the router. These publications contain additional information on using the configure command. You can choose to configure the system to point to the upgradable ROMmon image. At bootup, the system starts with the ReadOnly image and then, if configured, jumps to the upgradeable ROMmon image. If the upgradeable ROMmon image fails to boot, the router will mark this ROMmon image as invalid and reverts to the ReadOnly ROMmon image. If the ROMmon-executing process is interrupted, the system interprets this as a bootup failure of the new ROMmon image. The router reverts to the ReadOnly image. Do not reset the router when it is doing an initial bootup. See the following examples for information shown in the output of the show rom-monitor or showmon commands: The enable secret password is encrypted, however, and must be replaced with a new enable secret password. You might need to reload the system image by power cycling the router. This allows you to log in without using a password and to display the startup configuration passwords. Note the value for use later and proceed to Step 6. If you cannot log in to the router at all, go to the next step. Proceed to Step 6. If Break is disabled, power cycle the router (turn the router off or unplug the power cord, and then restore power after waiting 30 seconds).

If you skipped You can also use the show diag slot command to display information about the port adapter slot. Note that slot 0 is reserved for the native Gigabit Ethernet ports: To select either optical Gigabit Ethernet or copper Gigabit Ethernet ports, use the media-type command. Following the table is a more in-depth description of each setting. Table C-2 provides information about the bits settings. If you set the boot field value to 0, you must have a console port access to boot the operating system manually. Boot the operating system by entering the b command at the bootstrap prompt as follows: If no file is found in system Flash memory, the router attempts to netboot a default file with a name derived from the value of the boot field (for example, cisco2-7301). If the netboot attempt fails, the boot helper image in boot flash memory will boot up. If the end of the list is reached without a file being successfully booted, the router will retry the netboot commands up to six times if bit 13 of the configuration register is set, otherwise it will load the operating system software available in ROMmon. If bit 13 is not set, the router will continue to netboot images indefinitely. The default setting for bit 13 is 0.

Planning a proper location for the Cisco 7301 router and the layout of your equipment rack or wiring closet is essential for successful system operation. Equipment placed too close together or inadequately ventilated can cause system overtemperature conditions. Before installing the chassis in the rack, you must install a rack-mount bracket on each side of the front or rear of the chassis. To install the rack-mount and cable-management brackets on a Cisco 7301 router for a front rack-mount configuration, complete the following steps: Locate the threaded holes in the front sides of the chassis. Step 2 Using a Phillips screwdriver and the screw, thread and tighten the screw to the M4 x 20-mm cable-management bracket. These screws are not available from Cisco Systems; they are available from a commercial hardware vendor.See “Tools and Parts Required”. For example, if you are connecting. The Cisco 7301 router has three native Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and six physical Gigabit Ethernet ports, three RJ-45 ports (copper) and three SFP GBIC ports (optical). Only three of the six ports can be in use at any one time. Cisco Systems does not supply Category 5 UTP cables; these cables are available commercially. Appendix A, “Specifications,”. The MAC address for the port adapter slot in the Cisco 7301 is slot 0. You can remove a port adapter and insert it into another router without causing the MAC addresses to move around the network or be assigned to multiple devices. When you remove or insert a port adapter or service adapter in a Cisco 7301 router, the pins send signals to notify the system, which then performs as follows: Rapidly scans the system for configuration changes. Table 3-1 lists the typical temperature thresholds for the Cisco 7301 router, and Table 3-2 lists the DC power thresholds for the normal, warning, and critical (power supply-monitored) levels. You can also retrieve and display environmental status reports with the show environment, show environment all, show environment last, and show environment table commands.
